Teen Productions is working with individuals and non-profit organizations to help create a summer program and international film about world communication, respect, and peace. Our goal is to put together a program for the summer of 2007 or 2008 for teens to meet and create a peace project that will reflect positively on our world leaders and their respective nations.
After watching nations throughout the world struggle in meeting and addressing concerns of violence, drugs, and cultural misunderstandings, our teens decided to address this concern by requesting that we contact our government officials for help. The students and I truly believe that just as we have worked on multiple concerns in Northern Virginia, with teens and adults, we can do the same with college and high school students on a global scale.
The most enjoyment seen in this program over the years is that no matter how different students are throughout the world, they can always come together to work on a project. Teen empowerment and the experiences they gain from working together on projects with diverse groups are un-measurable.
The students (with advisory support) with run all aspects of the production from start to finish. They will have instructional classes on mathematic, science, social behavior, history of peacekeeping financial and all technical elements or creating the film project. In addition, the students will have the opportunity to work on cultural, leadership, and team building activities that will help them complete the project and learn valuable life lessons that they can take back to their homeland.
We will work with several non-profit organizations, college professors, and other government officials to create this project. Multiple sites will allow the students to grasp and better understand cultures away from their home countries. The completed film/DVD will enable a multitude of educational and cultural organizations to use the program as a learning tool.
Program Synopsis
Teen Productions is a program composed of high school and college students who write, produce, and present interactive live shows and discussions that address many important issues. Current topics of interest by the teens include drug & violence prevention, respect, good communication, self-esteem, personal accountability, and good decision-making, and leadership roles as it relates to teens who will become the future of our world. Positive activities reflect on health, education, and family.
The program also focuses on creating sports and positive activities that allow youth the opportunity to be a part of a fundamental group. Based on the premise that teens are more likely to listen to and imitate each other, the program involves students talking to other teens and adults about their concerns. The program participants also have the opportunity to work with business/community leaders to help in developing their program activity. This allows the participants to learn valuable life lessons.
By conversing with their peers, the students also converse with community leaders and the business community. The Teen Productions’ staff determines the most common concerns and pressures facing the teens and their families. The staff then tailors a show production to meet concerns that are specific to the demographics of the selected group.
